Joy Ride Cafe on Calle Nicolás Ortiz has been the central traveller meeting point in Sucre for two decades. By day it is a breakfast and lunch cafe — vast pancakes, eggs benedict, salads, smoothies, very good coffee — with strong Wi-Fi and an upstairs room of long tables that always seems half-full of digital nomads and backpackers. By night it becomes a bar with live music on weekends, cocktails, and a noisy crowd.
The food is fairly priced and consistent rather than spectacular; the appeal is the atmosphere and the easy walking distance from most central hostels. Joy Ride also runs the city's longest-established bike tours and motorbike rental, with overnight trips out to Maragua and the surrounding hills. A useful one-stop for anyone arriving and trying to work out what to do next.
