The Beco do Batman is a short L-shaped alley in Vila Madalena, every centimetre of its walls covered in murals and graffiti by Brazilian and international street artists. The pieces change constantly — there is no curation, anyone with a can of paint can add to or paint over what is there — but the quality stays high because the best Brazilian street artists treat the alley as a working portfolio.
It is one of the most photographed places in São Paulo, and on weekends you will share it with fashion shoots, drone photographers, and Instagrammers. Come early on a weekday morning if you want it to yourself. The surrounding streets of Vila Madalena — bars, galleries, third-wave coffee — make for an easy afternoon's wander.
