The Museu do Futebol is built into the under-stands of the Estádio do Pacaembu, the stadium that hosted World Cup matches in 1950 and was for decades São Paulo's main football ground before the Arena Corinthians opened in 2014. The museum is interactive in the best sense — vintage radio commentary on the speakers, original World Cup footage on screens, replica shirts and trophies, a hall of fame of Brazilian footballers from Garrincha to Pelé to Neymar.
The single best room is the 1950 Maracanaço — the lost final to Uruguay that traumatised a generation of Brazilians — recreated in moving lights and slowed crowd sound. Even if you do not care about football, the museum makes a case for why this country does. Allow ninety minutes.
