Capela dos Aflitos

Capela dos Aflitos is one of São Paulo's oldest surviving churches, built in 1774 as the chapel of the city's first cemetery. Its narrow side-street setting near Liberdade gives it a very different mood from the larger churches around Sé.

The chapel is a short, atmospheric stop for visitors exploring central São Paulo's older layers. It is most rewarding when paired with a walk through Liberdade and the historic centre.
