Dhaka's Pink Palace, a nawab's mansion turned riverside museum

The Pink Palace — a candy-coloured 19th-century mansion on the bank of the Buriganga that was the official residence of the Nawabs of Dhaka. It is now a museum of the city's late-Mughal aristocracy: ornate period rooms, old photographs, and an engaging (if sometimes dusty) account of the family who ran Dhaka before partition. Closed on Thursdays. The view across the river from the terrace is a good introduction to the chaos of old Dhaka's boat traffic.
