Baldha Garden

A small botanical garden in the Wari district of old Dhaka, created in the early 20th century by the zamindar Narendra Narayan Roy, who amassed a collection of rare plants from across Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The garden is divided into two sections — the Psyche garden (flowers and ornamentals) and the Cybele garden (economic and medicinal plants) — and contains some remarkable specimens including orchids, cacti, and tropical trees not found elsewhere in Dhaka.

For a city desperately short of green space, Baldha Garden is a genuine oasis. It is small — about two acres — but the combination of old trees, rare plants, and the relative quiet makes it one of the more peaceful spots in the old city. Small entry fee; open most days.
