PMQ — Police Married Quarters — is a mid-1950s housing block on Aberdeen Street that was converted in 2014 into a multi-storey design and lifestyle centre. Around a hundred studios and shops occupy the two wings and courtyard, most of them run by Hong Kong designers selling furniture, jewellery, clothing, homeware, and ceramics. The courtyard hosts markets and temporary exhibitions.
The building itself is worth a look: the original modernist block is intact, with the corridor-and-grid facade giving each studio its own small covered balcony. Between the antiques of Hollywood Road uphill and the bars of SoHo downhill, it fits naturally into a Sheung Wan walk. Sheung Wan MTR (exit E2), then a short walk up Hollywood Road.
