The former residence of Mao Zedong (毛泽东旧居) occupies rooms within the August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum complex, where the revolutionary leadership was headquartered in late July and early August 1927. The preserved rooms include sleeping quarters and the meeting rooms where the uprising was planned. Interpretive panels cover the specific period with more detail than the main museum galleries.
The site is free to enter along with the main museum. Revolutionary tourism to these kinds of preserved rooms is a significant part of domestic Chinese travel, and the site is accordingly well maintained. For visitors who want to understand how much the political history of Nanchang still shapes the city's identity, this is the most concentrated stop.
