Wanshou Palace

Wanshou Palace (万寿宫) is a Taoist temple complex in the Donghu district, dedicated to Xu Xun (许逊), a Taoist immortal associated with Jiangxi who is said to have controlled a great flood in the region during the Jin dynasty. Xu Xun is Jiangxi's tutelary deity, and Wanshou Palace complexes exist throughout the province, but the Nanchang original — while repeatedly rebuilt — is the ancestral site of the cult. The current complex dates primarily to the Qing dynasty with more recent reconstructions.

The complex includes temple halls, a theatrical stage, and surrounding gardens. A large-scale restoration and expansion project transformed the area around the palace into a historical cultural street in the 2000s, surrounding the core religious site with shops and restaurants in period-appropriate buildings. The temple itself remains active for religious use and entry to the core halls is free.
