Deepor Beel is a major freshwater wetland southwest of Guwahati and one of the region's most important bird habitats. Seasonal water levels, fishing activity, reeds, and open views make it a very different experience from the city's temples and markets.
It is most rewarding for birdwatchers and travellers interested in Assam's natural landscape. Go with realistic expectations: access points can be informal, and the wetland faces urban pressure, but its ecological importance is real.
