A small colonial monument on the riverfront at Sukreswar Ghat, the Northbrook Gate was built in 1874 to welcome the British viceroy Lord Northbrook on a visit to Guwahati. It is a pavilion-like ceremonial arch in cement and brick, locally nicknamed "Gateway of Assam", and is one of the very few surviving examples of British-era municipal architecture in the city — though much rebuilt after the 1897 earthquake.
Quick stop on the way along the riverfront promenade; combine with Sukreswar Temple immediately above. The gate is best photographed in the late afternoon.
