Chhapan Mahal

Chhapan Mahal is a domed mausoleum south of Mandu's central group of monuments. Its exact occupant is unknown, but the walled complex is part of the same layered funerary landscape that gives Mandu much of its atmosphere.

The name means "fifty-six" and is linked in local tradition to famine-relief work during the late nineteenth century. The square tomb is worth a short stop while moving between Mandu's larger monuments, especially because the complex also contains a small site museum.
