Hindola Mahal

Hindola Mahal is a great audience hall in the Royal Enclave, memorable for its inward-sloping side walls and high arched openings. It is less ornate than Jahaz Mahal, but the proportions are powerful and almost modern.

Stand inside the hall and look up at the bare masonry. Mandu's best buildings often work this way: they do not need much carving because the mass, shadow, and geometry do the talking.

A story
Hindola Mahal means "Swinging Palace", a nickname that comes from its sharply sloping buttressed walls. The effect is structural as much as decorative: the hall feels as if it is leaning into motion while remaining perfectly solid.
