Papan is a partly abandoned tin-mining town near Ipoh, with old shophouses, overgrown streets, and the remains of a once-busy settlement. Its quiet, half-ruined feel is the main reason to visit.
The town also has wartime history: resistance fighters used it as a base and set up a free clinic and dispensary here during the Japanese occupation.
