Perak Tong

Ipoh's grandest cave temple with 385-step hilltop lookout

Address Jalan Kuala Kangsar, Gunung Tasek

Perak Tong (Perak Cave) is the most impressive of Ipoh's northern cave temples, built into Gunung Tasek about 6 km north of the city centre. Founded in 1926 by a Buddhist priest from China, the main chamber holds a 12.8-metre gilded sitting Buddha and walls painted with mystical murals. A 385-step staircase climbs from the back of the cave up through the limestone to a lookout platform with a commanding view over the Kinta Valley and the city.
