Schloss Prielau

Former prince-bishop's hunting lodge on the north shore of Lake Zell

Schloss Prielau is a handsome lakeside castle on the northern shore of the Zeller See, about 2km from the town centre. The building dates from the 16th century and served as a hunting lodge for the prince-bishops of Salzburg. Its setting — directly on the water, framed by the mountains — is one of the most photographed in the valley.

Today it operates as a luxury hotel and restaurant. Non-guests can walk the lakeside path past the castle and admire the exterior; the restaurant is open to all and worth considering for a special meal, with views across the lake to the Schmittenhöhe.
