The Cathedral of Ss Peter and Paul crowns the Petrov hill on the southern edge of the old town, its twin neo-Gothic spires visible from most of the city. The current building dates mainly from the 11th and 12th centuries, though the towers were added in the early 20th century. The interior has a Romanesque crypt — one of the oldest surviving structures in the city — and a number of notable artworks including a Baroque altar and Renaissance-era stonework.
The cathedral square offers excellent views across the rooftops of the old town toward Špilberk Castle. Entrance to the cathedral is free; the crypt and tower carry separate fees. The tower climb gives the best views in central Brno, though the steps are steep and narrow.
