Church of St. James

The Church of St. James is one of Brno's great Gothic churches, founded in the thirteenth century and largely unchanged since the seventeenth. Its tall nave and clean stonework make it a strong stop even before you go below ground.

Beneath the church is the Brno Ossuary, one of the largest in Europe. See both together if you can: the church gives the setting, while the ossuary shows the dense, unsettling layer of burial history beneath the old city.
