Brandts occupies a converted 19th-century cotton mill in the centre of Odense and combines the Danish Museum of Photographic Art with rotating exhibitions of contemporary art and visual culture. The photography collection runs from 19th-century pioneers to current Danish documentary practice.
The building's industrial bones — exposed brick, cast-iron columns, big factory windows — make it one of the better gallery spaces in the country. The surrounding block has been redeveloped into a courtyard of restaurants, a cinema, and a children's centre, making it an easy place to spend a wet afternoon.
