Odense Teater

Denmark's third-largest theatre, near the King's Garden

Odense Teater, founded in 1796 and rebuilt on its current site in 1914, is one of Denmark's three national stages. The building, in a restrained neo-Baroque style, faces the King's Garden and houses three auditoriums. The main hall seats 600 and hosts a year-round programme of drama, musicals, ballet, and opera; tickets are inexpensive by Danish theatre standards.

Performances are almost all in Danish, but the building is open to the public and worth a look from inside even without a ticket — the marble entrance hall and grand staircase are intact 1914.
