Møntergården

Odense's city history museum in a courtyard of half-timbered houses

Møntergården is the cultural history museum of Odense, set in a cluster of half-timbered merchants' houses around a cobbled courtyard. The displays cover Funen from the Stone Age to the 20th century — Viking silver hoards, medieval tools, early industrial Odense, and a strong run of objects on daily life under occupation in the 1940s.

The courtyard itself, with its galleries and exterior staircases, is one of the most photogenic corners of the old town. Several adjacent buildings have been kept furnished as they would have been in the 18th and 19th centuries, with rooms you can walk through.
