The current St. Alban's, completed in 1908 and modelled on Westminster Cathedral in red brick, is a striking neo-Gothic building with a 54-metre spire that dominates the central skyline. It is dedicated to an 11th-century English martyr whose relics, according to tradition, Knud the Holy was bringing to Odense when he was killed.
The church is Catholic — unusual in Denmark — and the interior is plainer than the exterior suggests. The small park around it, with a bronze statue of Knud, is a quiet spot just steps from the cathedral.
