Fokos Beach

The most remote and least-visited beach on Mykonos, on the northeast coast about 11 km from town. Fokos is accessible only by a rough dirt track that requires a 4WD vehicle or a scooter with good clearance — there is no bus and no caïque. The beach is wild, windswept, and unspoiled: a long grey-sand cove with no facilities, no sun beds, and very few people even at the height of summer.

The meltemi wind can make swimming difficult here, but the isolation more than compensates. Bring food, water, and a snorkel — the rock formations at the ends of the bay are good for snorkelling, and the drive through the island's bare interior to get here is its own reward.
