Ali Pasha Mosque

The Ali Pasha Mosque on the lakefront edge of the old town is the largest Ottoman building still standing in Ohrid. Built in the 16th century by an Ottoman governor, it served the city's Turkish community until the population exchanges and emigrations of the 20th century reduced the local Muslim population to a handful of families.

The mosque is small by Istanbul standards but well-proportioned, with a single-dome prayer hall, slender minaret, and a quiet walled courtyard. It is again in use for prayers and is usually open to visitors outside prayer times. Remove shoes; modest dress.
