Volkspark is Enschede's classic urban park, laid out in the 19th century as a green space for the growing textile city. Lawns, mature trees, water and walking paths make it a relaxed counterpoint to the shopping streets and university-driven energy elsewhere in town.
It is most appealing as part of an ordinary local day: a walk, a picnic or a pause between museums and the Oude Markt. Occasional events give the park a livelier role, but its everyday calm is the main attraction.
