Franciscan Church of the Annunciation

The pink Baroque facade of the Franciscan Church dominates Prešeren Square and is the most photographed view in Ljubljana. Built between 1646 and 1660, it was the first Baroque church in Slovenia. The clock on the tower is a Ljubljana reference point; the rosy-red colour is a deliberate choice and has been maintained in every restoration.

The interior is quieter than the exterior suggests. The main altar — designed by Francesco Robba, who also made the famous fountain by the Town Hall — is one of the finest Baroque altars in Slovenia. The side chapel contains a polyptych by Franc Kavčič from 1857.
