The Museum of Architecture and Design, usually shortened to MAO, gives Ljubljana's design culture a proper home. It is housed in Fužine Castle, outside the old-centre circuit, and its exhibitions move through architecture, graphic design, industrial design, photography, and urban questions.
The location means it is a deliberate trip, not something you stumble into between bridges. Go if you are interested in Plečnik's legacy, Yugoslav modernism, or contemporary design; the museum helps explain why Ljubljana feels so carefully shaped even when it is being playful.
