Linnaeus Garden and Museum

Linnaeus's own 18th-century botanical garden, preserved intact

The Linnaean Garden (Linnéträdgården) is the university botanical garden that Carl Linnaeus restored and managed from 1741 onwards. It has been carefully maintained to reflect its 18th-century layout, with plant beds arranged according to Linnaeus's own classification system and stocked with heritage varieties of cultivated plants. Linnaeus's city residence stands right beside the garden and is preserved as a museum, displaying original manuscripts, botanical specimens, and personal effects. Open May to September; the garden is free, the museum charges a small fee. Located centrally on Svartbäcksgatan.

Note: this is not the same as the university's current Botanical Garden (Botaniska trädgården), which lies below the castle and was founded after Linnaeus's death.
