Valsgarde

Valsgarde is a Viking-era burial site on the Fyris River, north of Uppsala. Excavations here uncovered around 90 graves, including richly furnished boat burials that helped archaeologists trace changes in elite Scandinavian burial customs from the 5th to the 11th century.

There is little visible archaeology on the ground today, so the visit is mainly about the riverside setting and the historical context. Pair it with Gustavianum in central Uppsala, where important finds from the area can be understood in a museum setting.
