Holgate Windmill is a restored working windmill in a residential area west of York's centre. It is a modest sight compared with the Minster or city walls, but it adds a different piece of local heritage and shows how rural industry once sat close to the city.
The mill is most worthwhile on open days, when you can see more than the exterior and understand the restoration. It is a good add-on for repeat visitors or anyone staying outside the old city core.
