Dalnavert Museum is a restored Queen Anne Revival house in central Winnipeg, furnished to evoke late nineteenth-century upper-middle-class life. It is closely associated with Hugh John Macdonald, son of Canada's first prime minister and briefly Manitoba's premier.
The house is a good counterpoint to Winnipeg's bigger civic museums because it works through rooms, domestic detail, and social history. Visit if you enjoy historic interiors or want a sense of the city's Victorian-era elite.
