Le Musee de Saint-Boniface Museum is one of Winnipeg's most important local-history stops, housed in the city's oldest surviving building. Its exhibits focus on the Francophone and Metis history of Saint-Boniface, including the world of Louis Riel and the communities that shaped Manitoba before Winnipeg became the prairie city visitors see now.
The museum works especially well with a walk through Saint-Boniface and a visit to the cathedral ruins nearby. It gives the neighbourhood depth: this is not just the French side of the river, but a place where language, religion, Indigenous politics, and Canadian state-building all collided.
