Lime Cay

Lime Cay is a small uninhabited island off Port Royal in Kingston Harbour — reachable by boat from the Port Royal waterfront in about 10 minutes, and one of the best beaches within reach of the capital. The island is essentially a sandbar with a fringe of palm trees, surrounded by clear, shallow water that offers good snorkelling on the reef immediately offshore.

There are no facilities — no bar, no restaurant, no shade structures — so visitors bring everything they need. On weekdays the cay is almost deserted; on weekend afternoons Kingston families arrive in small boats, set up speakers, and create an impromptu beach party that lasts until dusk. Both versions are enjoyable. Combine the visit with a morning at the Port Royal fort and lunch at Gloria's on the waterfront for a full day out of Kingston.

A story
Lime Cay is a favourite weekend escape for Kingston residents who know to ask the fishermen at Port Royal for a water taxi — a 10-minute ride to what is effectively a private sandbar with clear water. It has no facilities, no vendors, and no permanent presence. On a weekday, you may have it entirely to yourself.
