Sacramento's professional soccer team, playing in the United Soccer League Championship (the second tier of American soccer) at Bonney Field near the Sacramento State campus. Sacramento Republic was founded in 2014 and has been one of the more successful lower-division clubs in American soccer, drawing loyal crowds and generating serious discussion about a future MLS bid.
The matchday atmosphere is notably good by lower-division standards. The supporter sections are active, the sight lines from Bonney Field are clean, and the club has developed a Sacramento identity — shirts, scarves, and local branding — that resonates with the city's emerging civic pride. Check the fixture list if your visit coincides with a home game; tickets are affordable and the experience exceeds expectations.
