Warehouse Artist Lofts

A residential and studio complex in the R Street Corridor, housed in a converted 19th-century warehouse that once served the railroad. The Warehouse Artist Lofts opened in 2012 as affordable live-work space for Sacramento artists, and they anchor the R Street neighbourhood's reputation as Sacramento's creative quarter.

The surrounding R Street Corridor — stretching from 10th to 18th streets along R Street — has evolved around the arts community with galleries, small theatres, independent restaurants, and a monthly Art Walk that draws visitors on the second Saturday of each month. The neighbourhood is a good example of adaptive reuse done at human scale: the warehouses are intact, the street is walkable, and the businesses have a genuine connection to the community rather than being imported wholesale.
