The site of the original 1820s Mexican settlement that grew into modern San Diego, preserved as a state historic park with adobe houses, blacksmith demonstrations and the small Casa de Estudillo museum. The surrounding Old Town district is a tourist enclave of mariachi-fuelled Mexican restaurants and souvenir shops, but the historic core itself is quietly worth an hour's wander, particularly on weekends when costumed interpreters are out.
