The Timken Museum of Art is a small Balboa Park museum with a compact collection of European old masters, American painting, and Russian icons. It is easy to pair with the larger San Diego Museum of Art next door.
The draw is quality rather than size: a short visit can still include major European works, including Rembrandt, along with a calmer pace than the park's larger museums.
