A 33-acre museum complex in Buckhead with permanent exhibits on Atlanta's Civil War and civil rights history, the 1996 Olympics, and Southern folk life. The recently relocated and restored Battle of Atlanta Cyclorama — a 49-foot-tall, 358-foot circular painting of the 1864 battle, originally painted in 1886 — is the standout exhibit.
The grounds include the 1928 Swan House mansion (used in the Hunger Games films) and the 1840s Smith Family Farm. Allow a full afternoon. The Cyclorama gallery's reconstruction, with a viewing platform that rotates visitors slowly around the painting, is one of the best museum installations in the South.
