Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum

The presidential library of Atlanta's most famous 20th-century politician, in a low-slung modernist building set in 35 acres of gardens off Freedom Parkway. Permanent exhibits cover Carter's 1976 presidential campaign, the Camp David accords, the Iran hostage crisis, and his extensive post-presidential work — Habitat for Humanity, the Carter Center, election monitoring.

The grounds and the rose garden are pleasant for a walk. The neighbouring Carter Center is the operating headquarters of his foundation rather than a museum, but the campus is open. Allow two hours.
