Center for Puppetry Arts

A puppet museum and theatre next to Federal Reserve Plaza in Midtown, with the world's largest collection of Jim Henson material. Galleries cover global puppet traditions — Bunraku, shadow puppets, Mr. Rogers — alongside the Hensonalia, which is the obvious main draw.

The theatre programmes daily children's performances and occasional grown-up shows in the evenings. Allow two to three hours including a show. One of Atlanta's surprises.

A story
Jim Henson personally inaugurated the Center in 1978 by performing with Kermit the Frog — and the museum is now the largest repository of his original puppets, including Kermit himself, Big Bird, the Swedish Chef, and most of the Fraggles. Henson's children chose the Center as the permanent home for his archive.
