Jackson Street Bridge

A low pedestrian bridge over Freedom Parkway connecting Old Fourth Ward to downtown, the destination of every Atlanta photographer at sunset. The view back at the skyline is the standard image of the city; the bridge is itself unremarkable except for the panorama it frames.

Free, no signage. Late afternoon and dusk are the best times; the railing is the spot. Bring a wide lens.

A story
The view of the Atlanta skyline from the Jackson Street Bridge — the city's row of skyscrapers framed by the open expressway in the foreground — is the opening shot of The Walking Dead and one of the most photographed urban panoramas in the South.
