Broad Ripple Village

A walkable village on the Monon Trail and the White River canal, about six miles north of downtown. Once Indianapolis's bohemian and college-bar quarter, Broad Ripple has matured into a mix of long-running dive bars, craft cocktail rooms, indie restaurants, and small galleries. The painted "Rainbow Bridge" at the entry to the village is a signature photo.

The Monon Trail — a converted rail bed — runs north and south from here through several other neighbourhoods, making Broad Ripple the perfect bike-tour base. Saturday's farmers' market is one of the best in the city.
