Oldfields–Lilly House & Gardens

Country-place house and formal gardens on the Newfields museum grounds.

Oldfields, better known as Lilly House, is the historic-house side of Newfields. The estate preserves the feel of an American country place: a furnished early-20th-century house, formal gardens, lawns and designed views that show how Indianapolis wealth once imagined genteel retreat.

It is worth treating separately from the art museum if you like houses and gardens. The interiors give the visit period texture, while the grounds are good for a slower walk after galleries, especially in spring and early summer.
