Robert Long House

The Robert Long House is the oldest surviving urban residence in Baltimore, a brick merchant's house from 1765 that stands in Fells Point as evidence of how the neighbourhood looked before the Revolution. It has been restored by Historic Ships in Baltimore and is occasionally open for tours.

The house is modest by colonial standards — two stories, four rooms — and gives a sense of the scale of merchant housing in 18th-century Baltimore. The surrounding streets in Fells Point have several other 18th and early 19th-century buildings, and the combination makes this one of the best-preserved early American waterfront neighbourhoods in the east coast.

A story
The Robert Long House was built in 1765, making it the oldest surviving urban residence in Baltimore — predating the American Revolution by eleven years. Robert Long was a merchant and justice of the peace, and his house reflects the prosperity of early Fells Point commerce. The building is now operated by Historic Ships in Baltimore and is one of the few colonial-era buildings in the city that has been preserved and interpreted.
