Mencken House preserves the home of H. L. Mencken, the Baltimore journalist, critic, and scholar best known for The American Language. He lived here from childhood until his death in 1956.
The house is a small public museum and National Historic Landmark. It is most rewarding for visitors interested in Baltimore writers, journalism, and the city's rowhouse neighborhoods west of downtown.
