Jewish Museum of Maryland

The Jewish Museum of Maryland is located in the Jonestown neighbourhood, one of Baltimore's oldest, and is built around two of the oldest synagogues in the country — the Lloyd Street Synagogue (1845) and the B'nai Israel Synagogue (1876). Both buildings are architecturally significant, and the museum uses them as its primary exhibit spaces, showing the history of Jewish life in Maryland from the colonial period to the present.

The museum covers immigration, commercial life, political history, and cultural expression in a way that reflects how deeply Jewish Baltimoreans contributed to the city's character. Jonestown itself has a long Jewish history, and the museum helps explain the neighbourhood's past. It is near the Fells Point area and makes a natural addition to an afternoon exploring that part of the city.
