Eastman Theatre

Landmark concert hall anchoring Rochester's Eastman School of Music

Eastman Theatre is Rochester's grandest performance hall, built by George Eastman as a cultural centre for the city and now run by the Eastman School of Music. The main Kodak Hall has the scale and polish of a big-city concert room, with a broad stage, elegant classical detailing, and a calendar that ranges from student recitals to visiting orchestras and jazz festival headliners.

It is most rewarding when you can time a visit around a concert, because the building was made for sound rather than quick sightseeing. Even without a ticket, the Gibbs Street setting gives a good sense of how deeply music is woven into downtown Rochester, with the theatre, school buildings, smaller halls, and cafes all clustered within a few blocks.
