Hochstein Performance Hall is one of Rochester's better small concert rooms, set inside the former Central Presbyterian Church just west of downtown. The building gives chamber music, recitals, and school concerts a warmer setting than the city's larger theatres, with stained glass and old church proportions still doing much of the atmospheric work.
It is most useful to travellers who like to catch a local performance rather than only tick off museums. Check the Hochstein School's calendar before you go: the hall hosts student, faculty, community, and visiting musicians, and the lunchtime concerts can be an easy way to fold live music into a downtown day.
