Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse is a historic children's play space in East Fairmount Park, opened in 1899 and still aimed at free, unstructured play. The large playhouse and surrounding grounds are best for families with younger children.
Its best-known feature is the Ann Newman Giant Wooden Slide, a century-old favorite set into the hillside. The site is a useful Fairmount Park stop when traveling with kids, especially because it feels different from the city's museum-heavy attractions.
