United States Mint

The Philadelphia Mint is the first and largest United States Mint, a working coin-making site with a free self-guided visitor route. Exhibits explain how coins are made, show the first coinage press from 1792, and trace the Mint's role in the early republic.

Expect airport-style security and bring government-issued ID. Photography is not allowed inside, but the tour is a useful, often overlooked stop near Independence Mall.
